This west coast IPA takes us back to the early days of the IPA boom. Back when IPAs were bitter and piney, loaded with citrus and grassy notes, and California ale yeast was king. We focused on the classic American hop varieties of that era with the aim of bringing back the flavours that inspired us to follow in the footsteps of those craft beer pioneers.

The beer here is really great, especially the bottled offerings. I took the time to read though the labels on their extensive bottle selection and found a couple that were both intriguing to me and that I thought would be a hit with my more wine drinker friends. They were an absolute hit! I came back the next day to try some of the draught offerings which were also pretty tasty.

We stopped in on a Friday evening in late May and had a flight. The beers were very good. I especially liked the sours. We sat at the downstairs bar. There is an upstairs but we didn't go up so I have no idea how big that space is. The bartender was personable and attentive. I wish I had gotten his name, we chatted with him a bit while they weren't too busy. We didn't eat anything but I'd be willing to bet the food is good. There were not many breweries in town so we were happy to come across this one and we had an enjoyable time.

The drinks were pretty good, they have a good selection of beer so there's something for everyone. The food on the other hand was NOT worth the trip. We were served VERY warm water prior to ordering despite it being well over 30 degrees. Nothing had any seasoning on it. The pretzel wasn't salted and tasted like oily dough, the caprese sandwich didn't taste like anything, I don't think there was any seasoning on any part of it. It gets the extra star just for the drinks but that's about it.

Back home visiting family and decided to drive to Niagara Falls for the day. On the way home stopped off in Niagara on the Lake and stopped in here for a quick drink. The choices were very interesting (to say the least).first time I've seen an 'Sour Scale' on the tap list. My favorite is the Winter Warmer' which was a 10.3%, 2 year casket aged brew full of flavor. Be back again when we head to the Shaw Festival. See ya soon Exchange Brewing!
