Style: Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy
ABV: 6.2 IBU: 0
A peat smoked Scotch ale. This unique brews heart is that 10% of the malt is kilned over a peat fire, giving beautiful, deep rich smoky tones to the beer. It pours dark brown with a light tan head. It is low in hop bitterness and its profile is dominated by the sweet and smoky malts.

Brewed to commemorate the 2nd annual International Gruit Day, Church Key’s Namastale is a Finnish Sahti style. Gruit is an unhopped Ale that predates the use of hops in beer. Using instead spices and other botanicals. On the brew day , we lined the bottom of the mash tun with a basket weave of juniper boughs, then mashed Canadian Two row barley and our own heated well water, the aroma of pine filled the room. rosemary was added to the kettle to add depth to the spice. The result is piney with focaccia aromatics accenting the sweet two row malt.

Hop flavour is high, with an assertive hop bitterness. The hop aroma is similar to the flavour (floral, earthy, fruity, and slightly grassy). Malt flavour is medium-high, but pleasant, and supports the hop aspect. The malt shows an English character and is somewhat bready, biscuit-like, and caramelly. Despite the substantial hop character sufficient malt flavor, body and complexity support the hops providing high end balance.

Back by popular demand, this 7% beer was brewed with 350kg of locally sourced pumpkin that was put directly into the mash. The decision to smoke half of the pumpkin and roast the other half contributes to this beer’s delicate sweetness that is rounded with the dryness of high quality spices commonly used in your grandma’s pumpkin pie. Get it while it lasts! 7% alc./vol. 11 IBU

Buckwheat Beer What business does a brewer from eastern Ontario have brewing a Quebec/Belgian style Sarrisin, it “would be as welcome as a dog in a bowling alley”, or so the Québécois saying goes. We brewed it anyway. Buckwheat, strictly speaking, is not a grain; the little three-sided groats, like miniature beechnuts, are the seeds of a plant in the knotweed family. Hulled and toasted, they are familiar to us as kasha, and are used very like other true grains. More than a quarter of the grist in this beer is kasha, which contributes an aromatic nuttiness and silky, oily textures. There is a small (12Kg) amount of lactose added that helps accentuate the already silky palate of the buckwheat, and the balance of the malt bill is made up of Canadian two-row and organic German wheat and caramel malts. The Sarrasin is lightly hopped using only whole leaf Zeus, and Goldings grown at the brewery. And a bag full of cascade given to us by one of our local regulars. The hop bitterness is low to leave room for the complex yet subtle grain effects. The 7% alc. is buried well with the lactose sweetness. The colour is light gold with a slight veil. The palette delicate, should be served with lighter fare so as not to overwhelm. Tip of the hat to Bruno, who conjured up this idea while longing for a cold pint while stationed in Afghanistan.

Wonderful experience with delicious beer and a good variety of merch, local cheese & pickled goods. The place is also nicely decorated! It was pretty cold outside so the owner was nice enough to make room inside for us to sit with our dog (who's a timid rescue), where we enjoyed our flight of beer and played some cards. They also have a good variety of board games to enjoy with your beer drinking pals! 10/10 would definitely recommend and visit again!

Nice little spot nestled in one of the most beautiful regions of Ontario. Couldn't sit down to enjoy all brews so grabbed a growler of Red pale ale and tried it at home.. it is good, really good.

I was here many years ago with friends, and finally had an opportunity to return! Its these quint place that are so peaceful, a great spot to really enjoy a moment with a cold draft on a hot day. Made a day out of it! Visit the Bakery in Campbellford, walk by the river or at the provincial park, pop into the chocolate shop and then, of course, enjoy a pint at Church-Key! A great day awaits. Highly recommended!

Great local craft beer and music events take place here. Been a fan for 11 years now since moving to the area. Love the fire pit when weather is cooler. The Irish Red is my favorite beer here.
