We love Howl brewing and have done so since they opened. On the occasional Wednesday walk around the airport, we time it so we can stop in, try the latest creation and chat with the owner operator. I have to say if you are looking for the same drink every time you go, this isn't the place for you. The beers are small batches crafted with whatever ingredients are currently available, and often done in historically accurate style. (e.g. Ancient Viking Beer). If you want beer that may exist in other parts of the world that you cant get in North America, you might find it here (Pulque). They made an Heirloom Tomato beer, available at our Favorite restaurant Hanks, that was so good, we drank almost the entire Keg between the two of us. The only downside is that when you find something you love, there may not be anymore of it. We are willing to take that chance. At the site, they have a small outside tasting area. They do growler fills and sales.

I want to start by saying this isn't your father's beer. This is a unique tasting experience that requires an open mimd (and palate). Gotta admit, I've never had beer made with spruce tips, chaga mushrooms or myrrh. Yes, myrrh as in the three wise men gift. I am so glad I didn't listen to my initial thoughts of this beer is weird and walk away. I would have missed out on an incredible tasting experience!! The winter Gruit was amazing, and would pair well with a big Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, the entire dinner. The Eye of Newt winter Gruit was so damn unique, i cannot even begin to describe it, just a primal urge to shout to Oden here I come!!! We settled on the Belgium Ale, just amazing. Howl Brewery is constantly making small batches of these wonderfully creative beers. It's well worth the trip up to North Saanich for this amazing taste experience. I'll definitely be back just to see (and taste) what these crazy maniacs at Howl Brewery come up with next.

Brewing small batches a few times a week with a bend toward historical and lost styles makes this small (nano) brewery a reason to get out to North Saanich. Working much like a homebrewer who has outgrown his garage, Dan has moved into a public location where he can spread the gospel, history and artistry of making beer in a minimalist brewery. His love of beer is obvious as he pour you a sample and talks about them like a beloved family member. His small production facility ensures that there will be a lot of changes to the lineup and the fun will be helping him to decide which 3 or 4 beers that he needs to make on a regular basis. If your up by the Airport and love craft beer at it's humble and honest roots stop by and enjoy. The Fickled Fig has some outstanding food to pair up with his beers and lots of great fresh food and seasonal produce to go along home with your growler fill

Funky spot very close to the ferry. Flights of beer are large! A 4 beer flight feels like having 2 pints of beer. Beer was tasty overall and pretty easy drinking. Only one I didn't like was the Arboreal IPA as, like the name suggests, it tastes like you're drinking the forest. Not my style.

Every beer knocks it out of the park flavor wise. The brewery itself is super cute, there's goats! Unique flavors, love it!
