In the late 1880s, Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla were involved in a shocking battle known as the War of Currents. Edison had developed direct current (DC) while Tesla believed alternating current (AC) was superior. Today, instead of war, we see these two systems working in parallel to power different things. As we reflect on this shocking tale we enjoy a different shock from our IPA with its happy flavours and aromas.

The Junction Station was built over a century ago in 1858. During the build, workers used square nails which can still be seen in parts of the structure to this day. After over a century and a half, these nails have taken on a rusty orange which coincidentally is the same colour as our amber ale!

Having worked nights as a telegraph operator at Junction Station, a young Thomas Edison relied on bright incandescent light to see during his night shifts. Much like incandescent light, our blonde brew emits a similar hue to that of candle light.

As the story goes, a young Thomas Edison was fired from Junction Station after falling asleep on the job and nearly causing a train accident. Thankfully the train managed to stop in time, avoiding any collision. Our milk stout is sweet like the finish to that incident, but dark like that very night.

This place is top of the line. Wide selection of expertly brewed beers, also now serving made to order pizza! Our server was maybe the best server we have had at any establishment. Relaxed vibe with games for the kids to play as well. Friendly, prompt and clearly hard working. This place is worth a stop and the employee was the cherry on top. Thanks to Broken Rail and our server!

Something for every type of Beer drinker. Date of Visit: Sat July 1 Driving around the area of St Mary's we were pleasantly surprised to find this adorable brewery that we had not heard of before. Located a little out side of St Mary's in a rural train station with a caboose, this was the perfect spot to stop for a beer. They had a number of beers on tap, providing a good variety of options for beer drinkers. I admit I am always a bit particular when it comes to beer - I am not a craft brewer's target demographic, because finding a great beer for me to leisurely enjoy, can be a bit challenging. So, when a brewery has a number of great options, I have to give them a shout out. We enjoyed the Strawberry Buzzz Wheat, the square nail Amber, Incandescent Blonde. All were very good - and in fact, at a Perth County Farm Dinner we attended a month plus later - and they had broken Rail brews on the menu - I knew I could trust that I would enjoy them. Friendly service - and patient with me as I sampled many of their beers to try and find the beer that was right for me.

We love Broken Rail Brewing! The atmosphere is so cool and the staff are incredibly nice! I volunteer for Boxer Rescue Ontario and know they are a dog-friendly business and when I approached them about donating their empties to a bottle drive for the Rescue they were amazing and collected and donated tons of empties!! We had brought our pup to Broken Rail Brewing and they were so sweet to her, the other customers were as well. We will definitely be continuing to support them with our business in the future, as the beer tastes great too of course!
