Our Scottish ale is lighter bodied than the “Wee Heavy” but still no slouch. A malt forward beer brewed from BC pale malt and boiled for a long time to achieve higher gravity and bring out Carmel and toffee notes from the Maillard reactions that take place in the kettle. Also notes of coffee, tea and a pleasantly fruity astringency from the Norwegian farmhouse yeast.

Is it out of the way? Yes. Is it worth the trip? Absolutely. Even talking with locals, they confirmed you can't find food this good in the area. Campground is immaculate, Nathan and Gwyn and the staff are genuinely fantastic, and it feels like going over to a friend's place for a weekend of drinks and good eats. Go off the beaten path, and enjoy this. You will not regret it.

What a little gem. It's an absolute journey to get there, but a beautiful one. Make sure you have a map as there is zero cel service. The beer is great, the owners are so hospitable and their property is nothing short of stunning. Updating for our 4th visit this year. There is some signage now to keep reminding you that your on the right path. We stayed in the cabin on the lake thats available to rent and it was perfection. We had our own private little bay, the bedding was fantastic, fully stocked cabin and the lunch/dinner served at the brewery was excellent

After reading a story about the place in The Tyee, we decided to take a detour on a drive back to Vancouver from Northwest BC in August 2022. Nathan and Gwyn are great hosts. Had a quick tour of the brewery and sat outside for a flight of beer and a smoked sloppy joe. I think they have plans to build a small campground. Would be a nice place to hang out by the lake. Worth the trip.

A fantastic experience here, the beer is amazing. Food 10/10, but my favourite part was the half hour the owner chatted with us about the area. Any question we had was answered, a true hidden gem. Thank you Nathan!

tried their beers at a tasting event in prince rupert. Loved them. One was my favourite beer of the whole event. I think it was the Ootsa Pogo Dipa. Had not heard of Ootsa Lake. Now I want to go there.
