For this year’s International Women’s Day brew, we are collaborating with XHale Brew Co to create our own take on a very new style, the “Cold IPA”, which is sweeping across the USA but has yet to make its mark on Alberta. This mixed style combines aspects of both a European Lager and a West Coast IPA to create a very unique brew that is light in colour, crisp in finish, and heavy on hops. What better way to showcase this year’s Pink Boots hop blend? Our annual Pink Boots Brew is used to re-establish the conversation around women empowerment and inclusion in the brewing industry and we’ve teamed up with XHale Brew Co to help expand our reach with this important message.

ABV: 5 IBU: 30
Our Smoke on the Lauter is a medium-bodied oat pale ale with restrained American hops and smokey aromas and flavour over a pleasant base beer with a soft, pleasant mouthfeel. The smoke in this beer dominates but is not harsh or acrid, and features a toasty, woody character reminiscent of campfire, which interplays wonderfully with the malts and nutty oat flavours.

Style: Sour - Berliner Weisse
ABV: 3.3 IBU: 7
A hazy, tart and crackery Kettle Sour with a hint of lemon. Try this traditional sour on its own or with our house made fruit syrups! A modern take on German Berliner-weisse with a tart acidity and surprising level of flavour and body for such a low alcohol beer, with plenty of malty, husky grain flavour and a pale yellow colour with some haze. Originally called Kettle Sour #2, Jumpingpound is the basis for nearly all of our Barrel-Aged Sour and Barrel-Aged Fruited Sour beers. We are bringing this classic back in its unadulterated form with a fancy new name, emphasizing the importance of the connection to nature and the versatility of this product that has been around all along, but quietly in the background.

This fruited kettle sour was first created last summer to celebrate Pride Week and due to extremely popular demand, it has returned in even more glorious fashion! We took our Jumpingpound Kettle Sour and refermented it over 90 pounds of blueberry puree before adding a hint of lemon zest and vanilla to create an extremely approachable sour beer. Bursting with fruity citrus and berry notes paired with a delicately tart and full mouthfeel, this beer is sure to surprise many and blow away preconceived notions towards sour beers.

Style: Sour - Berliner Weisse
ABV: 3.3 IBU: 7
The first beer in our Sour Expedition highlights unique and experimental hop varieties to create a delicious sensory experience that is more than the sum of its parts. From the base Jumpingpound sour with its crackery and lemony notes with signature tartness we elevated the journey by dry-hopping with HBC 472, Cryo Mosaic, and African Queen. We chose such expressive hops to match the layered sourness that comes from modern kettle souring techniques - balancing the sour notes with the bitter notes without overpowering either. The result is a sessionable, pleasant dry-hopped sour that can be enjoyed anywhere.

Style: Porter - Imperial / Double Baltic
ABV: 10.3 IBU: 36
We took Desperate Times, our unique take on a Baltic Porter and aged it in a single barrel that once held California Zinfandel (2018 vintage), bringing mellow dark fruit, vanilla, and toast undertones to an already rich and delicious porter. Lagered and barrel-aged, this beer is smooth and crisp, yet full bodied and deceptively easy drinking for its alcohol content. At over 10%, this beer brings a fair amount of alcoholic heat that is beautifully balanced and mellowed from its extended barrel-aging time of 1 year. The resulting flavours resemble that of a glass of sherry or port with plenty of oak, vanilla, toast, and dark fruit notes.

We took Desperate Times, our unique take on a Baltic Porter, the 100th batch of beer brewed at Prairie Dog Brewing and aged it for 5 months in Tennessee Whiskey barrels, bringing bold yet smooth whiskey characteristics to an already rich and delicious beer. The malty sweet chocolate and light roastiness serve to introduce the warming backbone of its 10.3% ABV. Lagered and barrel-aged, this beer is smooth and crisp, yet full bodied and deceptively easy drinking for its alcohol content.

Style: Stout - Imperial / Double
ABV: 10.4 IBU: 77
A blend of 15-month bourbon barrel-aged and 3-month stainless-aged imperial stouts, further bottle-aged for 2.5 years. A deceptively smooth, full-bodied drinking experience without the sharpness of younger examples. Named for the atmospheric phenomenon that was originally coined in Alberta; Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement (S.T.E.V.E. for short), which appears as a ribbon of light across the sky. From its Aurora-watching inspiration, this barrel-aged imperial stout’s name represents a long process of studying and the amazing discoveries happening right here in Alberta in the sky and in brewery barrels. This big beautiful beer showcases what some patience and childlike wonder will do.

Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale
ABV: 10.3 IBU: 22
2023 Alberta Beverage Awards - Judges' Selection. Our annually released Midnight Combine is a strong, Belgian-style dark ale aged in American oak barrels for at least 3 months and allowed to undergo a secondary ferment through an inoculation with Brettanomyces yeast. The result is a blend of chocolate and subtle burned sugar paired with a mild wine-like acidity and complex blend of spicy phenols. Wood aging adds another dimension to this beer, making it bear some resemblance to a big, dark wine. This beer has been conditioned in the bottle and will continue to evolve as the beer ages, and is intended for cellaring for up to 3 years.

This beer uses the same malt bill as our Flagship Tail Twitcher but we switched the hopping regiment by adding more hops in the first dry hop and doing a second dry hop when the beer was cold (the last step before carbonation. We also switched to an American ale yeast in place of the English ale yeast we have used in our Tail Twitchers since day one.

I love Prairie Dog, have been coming for a couple years now. They are so amazing when it comes to allergies - I always ordered their classic Mac & Cheese but noticed that they recently changed the menu so it now contains egg - however the amazing service and kitchen staff made me a special egg-free version with handmade cheese sauce on the spot - so delicious! (Shout out to Nadia and our waitress - made my night!) The staff make the experience that much more enjoyable, just a perfect place for beer and some comfort food!

Great brews, and great BBQ (I'm picky about brisket)! Highly recommended for anyone looking for either. Staff are great, food and drinks are stellar as always! The pulled pork nachos are totally shareable for two people and the pork rinds are UNBEATABLE!

Food was awesome. But service was VERY slow at lunch. Some plates are pretty huge. Good flavour on the brisket, pretty salty if you like that style. Fries were very good.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Prairie Dog Brewery, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked in, the cozy and inviting atmosphere drew me in, promising a great time ahead. The brewery's rustic decor, combined with the delightful aroma of brewing beer, set the stage for a fantastic dining adventure. The beer selection at Prairie Dog Brewery is nothing short of impressive. With an array of unique and flavorful brews, there's something for every palate. Whether you're a fan of hoppy IPAs, rich stouts, or light and refreshing lagers, their diverse menu has you covered. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable about the beers and offered helpful recommendations, making the decision-making process enjoyable.

Dog friendly patio, had the brisket sandwitch and personal tasters. Pulled pork and brisket were the favorites. Skip the mac and cheese. Enjoyed the BackYard Oasis, sweeter than some browns I've had.
